Coach Cosgriff

Head Coach Brian Cosgriff and the Hopkins High School Lady Royals had not been to the Minnesota State Basketball Tournament for 5 years. But in 2011, that all changed. Coach Cosgriff led the Lady Royals to a 30-2 overall record and a 2011 AAAA Minnesota State Championship.

Coach Cosgriff credits the team’s success to hard work, attention to detail, and putting their selfish interests aside. Also, the Lady Royals use their 2 Guns, from Shoot-A-Way, as a station in the off-season to get up 500-600 game shots as quickly as possible. Coach Cosgriff says, “We find the Gun absolutely essential to increasing our shooting percentage during the season. Shooting is muscle memory, and The Gun forces you to put arch on the ball through repetition.”

The Hopkins Lady Royals witnessed the extra shooting repetition paying off when it mattered most. In the 2011 State Championship game, tied at halftime against a conference rival, the Lady Royals went 5 for 5 from behind the arc in the second half to move on to a double digit victory and a 2011 AAAA Minnesota State Championship. This is further proof that when opportunity presents itself, it’s too late to prepare! Congratulations to Coach Cosgriff and the Hopkins Lady Royals!!!
